Dressing and styling your bed for Winter

As the temperature drops here in Ashburton and Mid Canterbury, there's nothing quite as inviting as a warm and cosy bed. With the right bedding and styling, you can transform your bedroom into a sanctuary that embraces the season.

  1. Choose the Perfect Bedding

Start by selecting the right bedding materials that will keep you warm throughout the winter nights. Redmonds Interior Consultant, Lois Sparrow says “Opt for natural fibres like flannel, fleece, or heavyweight cotton, as they provide excellent insulation and are soft to the touch.” Consider investing in a high-quality duvet or comforter with a higher tog rating to provide extra warmth.

  2. Layer with Warm Textures

Introduce layers of warm and tactile textures to your bedding ensemble. Once you’ve added your sheets, top them with a cosy duvet cover, then add a comforter across the end of the bed for plenty of warm layers. Then toss a blanket or throw across the corner of the bed, for when you want to cosy up in the morning. Faux fur or wool blankets can add a touch of luxury and warmth to your bed. Play with different textures to create depth and visual interest.

  3. Embrace Winter Colours and Patterns

Incorporate winter-inspired colours and patterns to reflect the season. Deep blues, rich burgundies, warm greys, and earthy tones can create a cosy ambience. Plaid, striped or deep floral patterns can also add a wintery touch. Use these colours and designs for your duvet covers and pillowcases.

  4. Add Plump Pillows and Cushions

Nothing says winter comfort like a plump and inviting pillow arrangement. Layer your bed with multiple pillows and cushions in different shapes, sizes, and textures. Opt for fluffy down or feather-filled pillows for ultimate comfort. Mix and match solid colours and patterns to create a visually appealing display.

  5. Don't Forget the Bedside Essentials

Complete your winter bed styling by paying attention to the bedside essentials. Place a bedside table with a stylish lamp for ambient lighting as well as a soothing scented candle (see our neighbours at Homestead).

Dressing and styling your bed for winter goes beyond functionality. It's about creating a haven that invites you to snuggle up and unwind during the colder months. By choosing the right bedding, layering with warm textures, embracing winter colours and patterns, and adding thoughtful touches, you can transform your bed into a cosy and stylish sanctuary that you'll look forward to every night. So, go ahead and make your bed a winter wonderland where you can find solace and comfort throughout the season.
